How to use filenames correctly – for importing client selections into Lightroom

The plugin compares the filenames of the images in moodcase with those in your Lightroom Classic catalog.

Updated this week

The plugin compares the filenames of the images in moodcase with those in your Lightroom catalog. If they don’t match, the selected images cannot be marked correctly or added to the “Client Selection” collection.

Perfect – here is the final text as an Intercom help page. You can add it directly to your Intercom Help Center as a new article. Format is aligned with Intercom (headings, tables, clean structure).

Why is this important?

When exporting images from Lightroom and uploading them to moodcase, you should make sure the filenames remain the same – this is the only way moodcase can correctly mark your selection when importing it back into Lightroom.

Recommended filenames (work reliably)

Example

Description

IMG_1234.CR3

RAW file directly from the camera

IMG_1234.jpg

Exported JPEG with the same name

DSC_5678.NEF

Nikon RAW with original filename

20230928_RawImage_001.CR2

Manually renamed but consistent

Portrait_Marina_045.jpg

Works if identical in moodcase and Lightroom

Problematic filenames (can cause matching issues)

Example

Why problematic

unbenannt (3 von 400).jpg

No reference to the original file, automatically generated

final_edit_neu_neu.jpg

No link back to the original RAW file

moodcase-export.jpg

Often reused – not unique

IMG_1234 (Kopie).jpg

Suffixes like “(Copy)” interfere with matching

DSC_1234_kundenauswahl.jpg

Only valid if this exact name also exists in Lightroom

Best practices when exporting from Lightroom

Keep original filenames

  • In the Lightroom export dialog:

  • Option Filename → Same as original file

No special characters, umlauts or brackets

  • Use only letters (A–Z), numbers (0–9), dashes (-) and underscores (_)

RAW and JPEG with identical base name

  • Export JPEGs with exactly the same base name as the original files

Plugin tip

When importing the selection into Lightroom, the plugin offers the following options:

Mark selection with:

  • Stars (e.g. 5 stars)

  • Color labels (e.g. yellow)

Create collection:

  • A new collection named “Client Selection”

  • This gives you immediate access to the selected images.

What to do if filenames don’t match?

  • Re-export the images using the original filenames

  • Or mark the selection manually in Lightroom – you can always view it in moodcase using the filter “Selection = Yes”
