File names for importing client selections into Lightroom

Importing client selections into Lightroom Classic requires identical file names in moodcase and Lightroom for correct image identification.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

The plugin compares the file names of the images in moodcase with those in your Lightroom catalog. If these do not match, the selection cannot be flagged or added to the "Client Selection" collection.

How it works

Matching the selection requires identical file names in Lightroom and moodcase. Keep the original names when exporting from Lightroom so that moodcase can flag the selection in Lightroom.

Supported file names

Example

Description

IMG_1234.CR3

RAW file directly from the camera

IMG_1234.jpg

Exported JPEG with the same name

DSC_5678.NEF

Nikon RAW with original name

20230928_RawImage_001.CR2

Manually renamed, but consistent

Portrait_Marina_045.jpg

Works if identical in moodcase and Lightroom

Incompatible file names

Example

Cause

untitled (3 of 400).jpg

No reference to the original image

final_edit_new_new.jpg

No link to the original RAW

moodcase-export.jpg

Non-unique naming

IMG_1234 (copy).jpg

Additions prevent matching

Missing counterpart in Lightroom

Export settings in Lightroom

  • Keep file names

In the export dialog under "File Naming", select the "File Name" option.

  • Character set

Use letters (A–Z), numbers (0–9), hyphens (-), and underscores (_). Avoid special characters, umlauts, or parentheses.

  • Consistency

Export JPEGs with the exact same base name as the original files.

Plugin options

When importing the selection into Lightroom, the following options are available:

Flag selection with:

  • Stars (e.g., 5 stars)

  • Color label (e.g., Yellow)

Create collection:

  • A new collection named "Client Selection"

The selected images will be grouped in the defined collection.

Troubleshooting

  • Export the images again using the original names.

  • Flag the selection manually in Lightroom. The selection is visible in moodcase via the "Selection = Yes" filter.
